I looked up the European Skip
I looked up the European Skipper here:
http://wisconsinbutterflies.org/butterfly/species/132-european-skipper
I learned that it similar to the Delaware Skipper (Anatrytone logan) and the Broad-winged Skipper (Poanes viator). I'm afraid the distinctions are beyond me. Interestingly, the accompanying range maps indicate no records of any of the three in Menominee county.
I guess I'll opt for your suggestion until I can get further information. Thanks.

A couple of points
A Delaware Skipper should show a black bar across part of the forewing above. A Broad-winged Skipper should show distinct orange spotting against a darker background above. (The date's also pretty early for Broad-winged, I think -- although this year that may not apply so much.)
