Size: 2 inches
Never stopped flying, they never do. But at least mating slowed them down a little. Are these Carolina or Black ? Im tending toward Black

Great action shot!
The male just released the female so she could drop down and lay an egg, or she has just finished and is about to rejoin the male. Perfect timing!

Pure Luck
Thanks, but it was pure luck. They joined and split several times as they were being harrassed pretty steadily by both another presumably male saddlebags and several male common whitetails. Ive never got a decent shot of these at all before as they never seem to stop and perch. Everything is on the wing. Yesterday particularly it was 90 degrees and all the dragons were moving very quickly. Also had a male Widow Skimmer in the same little 'bay ' on our pond yesterday together with several male Needhams , the whitetails, blue dashers and eastern pondhawks.
