Hemileuca
If this is
Hemileuca
, of which I am not certain, it would be an early instar. MA has two species,
H. maia
and
H. lucina
. I'm not sure if
H. lucina
has been reported this far west in MA, but this species is associated with marshy habitats.

Certainly H. lucina
An early instar, but yes it's out in Berkshire Co and the habitat makes sense.
