Paramesus major
Chicago, Illinois, USA
May 25, 2006
I looked though the leafhoppers and couldn't find a good match, the closest I could find was Limotettix, and that's pretty far off. Any help would be much appricated.

Paramesus
This is an introduced European species that feeds on coarse rushes (Scirpus americanus) that are common in ditches. There is a smaller, more slender North American relative (Pasaremus concentricus) which is found only on Baltic rush (Scirpus balticus), a slender rush that forms brownish mats and is also found in ditches.

Thank you for the help! And
Thank you for the help! And also for the supplemental information. I like to learn a bit about each insect in addition to it's ID.
I was wondering if it was possible to pin a species on this guy? I see that it's a Paramesus, and the American relative is the P. concentricus. Is it possible from a photograph which European species? Do we have many that have taken hold here? I imagine to find one there must be a few million more around my area hanging out in ditches..

We found a note that said that
Paramesus obtusifrons is common in Europe and is now in Canada, but don't know whether that means this is it or not. Haven't found subfamily yet, so have not yet moved this to the guidepage.
Ah! found it - Deltocephalinae
