Unknown fly - Eulonchus marginatus

Unknown fly - Eulonchus marginatus
Willow Springs, San Benito County, California, USA
June 11, 2012
Size: 7mm length.
I thought this guy was being particularly cooperative, considering I was using my 60mm lens (rather than the 200mm) because I was photographing wildflowers near the spring on our property. Then I realized he had died right there on the flower.

And you didn't collect it for me!!! :-(
It looks like its sitting on Asclepias flowers. They are notorius for capturing bees and holding them by the foot. This is in the genus Eulonchus, and probably represents another undescribed species from the central Coast Range.

I have something similar from farther east in San Benito County.
