Found this guy resting on a fern. Any idea what species?

Perhaps not the Soft-Lined Wave.
When I first looked at this I thought it was a match, but if you look at the guide page, it appears there's a similar species with angled wings, Scopula limboundata, which I think fits this better. Compare:

Julia, please see the instructions for making thumbnail links to other images at the bottom of this page. Thumbs are really preferable to just inserting a copy of an image, because they link users to more information in our guide pages. Patrick Coin and Robin McLeod explained this better than I can, in this discussion in Forums.

Not a BugGuide image
If you look at the image properties (right-click or command-click on most browsers) you'll see this is from the Moth Photographers Group.

Whether it's a good idea to be constantly "stealing bandwidth" from another site is another issue. If there's a comparable image on BugGuide, then a thumbnail from that should be used. In this case there is, so your point is well taken.

You're right, Chuck - I hadn't noticed that
- I was thinking that Julia had got this from the identical one here:

Bob Patterson often uses BG images for MPG (after getting each photographer's permission) - I know some of my moth images are also on his site.

This is a hard one to figure
This is a hard one to figure out...looks like it has more of the characteristics of the Scopula limboundata...especially the little dots/bars on the wing tips. Anyone else have any ideas?

Unmarked Large Lace Border
Scopula limboundata. The post-median line is very conspicuous, and the two bulges below the costa is without doubt. The discal dots are sharply defined on all wings.
