Stem Sawfly 3 - Calameuta clavata - male

Stem Sawfly 3 - Calameuta clavata - Male
North of Boulder Creek, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
May 20, 2012
From the same time/place/population as companion post here...see that post for more info.

Initially I thought the thin yellow transverse band on the thorax might be significant...however it's not very (barely?) apparent on Natalie McNear's post here. But, in his discussion of Cephus clavatus, Middlekauff remarks that: "Both males and females vary greatly in their color patterns".

Moved from Cephus clavatus.

Cephidae
Calameuta clavata (Norton), male. Color does vary, and the narrow yellow band on the pronotum doesn't mean much.

Good to know
Guess the yellow band just adds some esthetic zest then :-)
I was wondering whether this was a male...now I know!
Thanks again, Dave.
