With that impressive shock of brilliant white mustache hair and those abdomen bands, I'd call this a Cyrtopogon lutatius (male).
Thanks for the nice series of photos, I especially love the one where it's shaking the prey. And it's nice to see a robber fly doing what it needs to get good publicity-- eating pest bugs.

so much for the i.d. I guess I should thank the robber, too, since that black fly might have wanted to bite me, hehehe.
