Reduviidae, dorsal - Pnirontis modesta - female

Reduviidae, dorsal - Pnirontis modesta - Female
100 Acre Wood, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
June 15, 2012
Size: 12+ mm
Black lighting.
On the Florida key http://entnemdept.ifas.ufl.edu/choate/Florida_reduviidae.pdf, page 16, I can get it as far as #9 but then can't figure out whether it is P. modesta or P. granulosa. If I understand the terminology (I may not), it looks as if the jugae surpass but the basal segment is about 1/2 the length of the head.
Thanks for the help.

Nice set of photos...
Pnirontis modesta, adult female. Jugae are slightly surpassing antenniferous tubercles. In P. granulosa, the jugae would not even reach the apex of the tubercles. Plus, P. granulosa is only known from Florida whereas P. modesta has a fairly large range.

Actually, my records indicate this may be a new generic record for Iowa. Don't suppose you have the specimen to voucher somewhere...

Moved from Pnirontis.

I have the specimen.
Did you want to voucher it somewhere?

Specimen acquired and examined...
Identification confirmed (female Pnirontis modesta). Now deposited in the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology (UMMZ).
