Lapping exudate from a flower of the (uncommon) "pine fritillary" (Fritillaria pinetorum), growing in the shade of a montane coniferous forest.

My guess is this is Sapyga angustata, or a closely related species. The overall shape and color pattern are very similar to that of Harsi's post below:

...though the head here seems a bit more elongate, and the pubescence appears lighter...though that could be due, at least partially, to my using strong flash here.
