Range

sw. US to n. South America(1)(2); in our area: C. beyeri AZ; C. lecontei NM, AZ; C. gloriosa TX-AZ; C. woodi TX-NM

(all our spp. range into n. Mexico)

Remarks

Many species, as well as some other scarabs, reflect these bright colors due to a unique combination of circular polarizing light, multilayer reflectors, and additive color mixing, known to occur only in Scarabaeidae, mostly in Rutelinae.
