intriguing; host data may prove critical for ID...
...because of the inadequate level of visual detail

Host data?
You keep raising my level of awareness so that some day I may know a little more. Flower species will now be on my list to ID along with insects. Thanks.

many herbivores are highly specialized, and knowing the host plant is often critical for identification --in fact, in some taxa no confident species ID can be provided (short of DNA sequencing) unless supported by host info.
aphids, miners, gall-makers, and sawflies are just a few examples of major groups where it's true.
