I Love These Beautiful Spiders!

These spiders are like living gems to me. They are so beautiful..and if I don't see them around my porch or garden every year I am really saddened by their absence. Some years they are all over the place..some not. This year I have one on my porch with a web right next to my light fixtures so I know it will eat plenty of insects and have a great life here in Saucier, MS. Lucky me to have one this year!

Spider relocation?

I love nature & try to work within it. I relocate snakes, spiders & insects. I have a Argiope aurantia that has moved onto my porch. Beautiful spider, but she has to move. Yesterday at dusk I rescued a tiny hummingbird from her web. The hummer had the sticky, gooey filament around its wings and beak and it was keening. I took it away and removed the strands of web then carried it to a mimosa bloom. It briefly sipped the nectar, then zoomed away. Would this spider like to work/live in my garden?

So Glad You Saved The Hummingbird!

I love these spiders too..but there are plenty of insects to be had without resorting to eating our beautiful little hummers. Thank you for rescuing it!

Garden Spider

This is in my Pepper plants In Redding CA, French Gulch area actually. I think this spider likes HOT peppers. I was wondering why my peppers were 1/2 eaten! (From the bottom up).

I might be wrong but they are carnivores and usually don't eat your plants, they go after things that eat your plants. If you're seeing half eaten things in your garden they probably are there for the same reason trying to eat the things that are killing your plants. I WISH I had one in my garden right now, I'd love to let them eat all the nasty things that are eating up my veggies.

garden spider

Do these spiders build tunnel webs? I have one that is living on my front porch since early July and traps insects, comes out long enough to drag them into the tunnel and eat them and deposits the remains in the web attached to the tunnel. I have been unable to get a really good picture of it since it is so illusive. I do know it has 8 orange and black striped legs. Sure would like to know for sure what it is.

Large Spider

We have one of these in our raspberry plants. Can you imagine trying to pick the berries and having him shake his web. I think he is going to jump right off the web. We are in Michigan and he has been here 3 years.

Garden Spider

I live in NH I found one of these in my yard. Is this anything to worry about? Is it harmful at all. I am not a spider fan at all and this one creeps me out!!

Not Harmful To Humans!

No need to worry! These beautiful spiders cannot harm humans and are not poisonous. They are wonderful insect pest catchers and are omens of good luck in the garden. Enjoy!

They're actually quite good to have in the garden, they are fantastic with eating garden pests. At least mine always have been. I first thought they were eating my plants, then I realized they were eating the aphids that were eating my plants. So that made me feel better!
