Locust Underwing - Euparthenos nubilis

Locust Underwing - Euparthenos nubilis
Blowing Rock, Watauga County, North Carolina, USA
July 7, 2006
Size: 3" wingspan
This magnificent moth was alive when first observed. I attempted to let it out of our kitchen, but it flew up above the curtains. By morning it had died. I felt I should photograph it "for the record".

looks like
a Locust Underwing to me; see Guide page for Euparthenos nubilis

Locust Underwing
Thanks, Robin! I see by the Guide page you suggest that my photographed moth has too many bands of black for the category I had chosen. I've edited my submission to reflect the ID. Ann K.
