Bombardier Beetle - Brachinus fulminatus

Bombardier Beetle - Brachinus fulminatus
Groton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
June 20, 2012
Size: 8mm

Moved
Moved from Bombardier Beetle.
Thanks Peter.

Brachinus fulminatus
based on my microscopic examination of this specimen** which is now a quasi-photo-voucher in the P.W.Messer collection. Thanks Tom.

** I encountered difficulty in associating images to identified specimens of which 5 similar Brachinus were bunched in same collection container. Of the 5, three posted images separate to species B. fulminatus based on body length shorter and third antennomere entirely dark. Unfortunately, images are not distinctive enough to confidently associate BugGuide image number with individual specimen of B. fulminatus.
