Hydrochara obtusata
female; females of this species are very similar to (and sometimes identical!) those of H. simula and H. soror. Based on Smetana's descriptions of these 3 species, the maxillary palps of H. obtusata are usually entirely pale (with some individuals having the outermost segment darkened at the tip) as in this specimen. The palpi of both H. simula and H. soror are always darkened at the tip, additionally with H. soror having a paler underside.
