Tiger Beetle - Ellipsoptera cuprascens

Tiger Beetle - Ellipsoptera cuprascens
Lake Stanely Draper, Oklahoma County, Oklahoma, USA
June 18, 2012
Size: 1-1.5cm
A few days ago I went to lake Stanely Draper . The water level was down 20-30 yards in some areas and one recently exposed stretch of shoreline was crawling with tiger beetles. I saw hundreds of beetles from several different species. Many of them looked like this one. They were slimmer than some of the other species and had coppery-red markings on their backs. Their undersides were covered in thick white hairs.
