Explanation of Names

Hypselonotus punctiventris Stål 1862

the specific and common names refer to black spots at spiracles

Identification

"As implied by the lack of names in synonymy, there is little conspicuous variation. The pronotum tends to have the 6 longitudinal vittae less developed in most specimens from Texas and northeastern Mexico than elsewhere. In all specimens preocellar vittae are present, and in all specimens the pale band of the corium is present and triangular." (Whitehead, 1974)
