unknown larva - Hyalophora cecropia

unknown larva - Hyalophora cecropia
Ottawa, Ottawa-Carleton, Ontario, Canada
June 23, 2012
Size: Approx. 1 to 1.5 inches
There were several of these small larva on a common buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) shrub near the Ottawa River in an area of open meadow and woodlots. I have searched the available books I have on lepidopteran larvae, but have not been able to ID this spiky creature.

hyalophora cecropia maybe
might be a second or third instar cecropia moth caterpillar

Thank you
For your help. I have seen the final instar of the cecropia larva but never the early, and would never have guessed what this one was.
