Black Witch Moth - BWM - Ascalapha odorata - male

Black Witch Moth - BWM - Ascalapha odorata - Male
Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, USA
July 5, 2010
A photo taken in Lincoln Ne. in early July of this year. I contacted the entomology department at U N L with James Kalish who identified the moth and sent me some information. ... I first observed the moth on a screen on a patio door. It is an open patio with a roof and only open to the south. I thought it was caught in a spider web but when I touched the moth it flew a few feet on to a hedge where this photo was taken.
