Small Beetle on Silverleaf Nightshade - Hyperaspis - male

Small Beetle on Silverleaf Nightshade - Hyperaspis - Male
San Pedro River Valley, SE of San Manuel, Pinal County, Arizona, USA
June 8, 2012
Small beetle with white rim and blue eyes on a Silverleaf Nightshade (Solanum elaeagnifolium) near a pond, also there was a Lace Bug together with it. I think the thin filaments on top are debris.

Hyperaspis, probably H. caseyi or H. inflexa
The two species are very similar and the ranges overlap; I can't tell which of the two this individual is. I'm leaning toward H. inflexa, but only because the only BugGuide image of H. caseyi has red markings on the elytra. Colors are so variable in lady beetles, I wouldn't use the example of a single H. caseyi to declare that the species doesn't have white markings!

It's a male, with a completely white "face"; females have only a small white area between the eyes.

Thank you
Your help and hard work on this are greatly appreciated. I'd looked at the photos quite a bit previously, but somehow I didn't see the similarities with H inflexa. Thank you once again!

adorable!
Must be a Hyperaspis of some kind. Abbie Parker may be able to tell; may even be new for BG. I'd offer to look into it more, but I just gave my copy of the American coccinellids to her :)
