Strange Fly - Lepidophora lepidocera

Strange Fly - Lepidophora lepidocera

The picture is not very good, but it's the best one I have. It's a fairly large fly of some sort that was sitting on the siding of my house, far above my reach. It's black with yellow hair. Any help in identifying is appreciated.

Bee fly, Lepidophora
Really nice specimen that has not yet lost its scales! For the longest time I saw these in the field and had no earthly idea what they were. Neat.

Thanks for the help. Bee fly
Thanks for the help. Bee fly never occurred to me. Given the general size and shape (of what I could see, at least), I thought it was some sort of robber fly.
