Dark butterfly with 3 white/brown spots. What am I?! - Cercyonis pegala - Male
Found in Taylors Falls, MN, Chisago County, Minnesota, USA
June 25, 2012
I was camping in Taylors Falls MN and found this pretty little thing. I have searched the internet and my books but I can't seem to find a match. I found it around noon, resting in the sun on a blade of grass, in a prairie. There were quite of a few of these fluttering around the prairie.

Cecyonis pegala ssp.
This looks to be an example from one of the northern populations of the Common Wood Nymph, C. pegala. They are highly variable within and among populations.
