very small though the wings were long. Less than half the size of the harvester ants. Harvester ant nest about 6 feet away. A fence lizard was eating the fire ants.

This is an indigenous fire ant species, once found across the Sunbelt, but now probably extinct most places where the imported ones have taken over.
