Dolomedes scriptus - Dolomedes tenebrosus

Dolomedes scriptus - Dolomedes tenebrosus
Big Oaks National Wildlife Refuge, Jennings County, Indiana, USA
June 30, 2012
I find a lot of these spiders under rocks along streams and most of them seem to have some light outline around their abdomen markings leading me to believe they are scriptus over tenebrosus. It seems D. tenebrosus is less tied to water anyway and I find these almost exclusively under rocks along streams.

Moved
Moved from Dolomedes scriptus.

More information on ...
how to tell these apart added to the info tab. Looking at the face D. tenebrosus has an inverted black v across the eyes, D. scriptus has more even coloration. If you look between the two rows of eyes tenebrosus has dark patches and D. scriptus has an uninterrupted light band of coloration between them. (Tip courtesy of Joe Lapp and Carico, 1973(1))

Moved to scriptus
Moved from Fishing Spiders. I'm going to have to go back & review the D. tenebrosus images. =[

I wasn't sure either...
This one was young and the white outlines didn't seem as distinct, but all of the adults I have seen appear to be scriptus, vittatus, or triton along the stream.

Dolomedes
I'd lean toward D. tenebrosus, but I could be wrong.
