caterpillar - Acrolepiopsis heppneri

caterpillar - Acrolepiopsis heppneri
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
June 25, 2012
Tiny caterpillar found on the back of a leaf of a Carrion Vine Smilax herbacea. So tiny it was just barely visible. I noticed that the leaf had a few tiny holes near the midrib and found this caterpillar had been eating the leaf. In the following days the caterpillar lightly sealed two leaves together and I did not want to disturb it to take more photos until it had grown larger so I was rather surprised to find that five days later it had pupated.
