I found this beetle upside down on the front walk. I had never seen one before. What an extraordinary looking insect! It was perfectly intact. I can't imagine how or why it died. Do they have natural enemies?

Amazing aniimal!!! Just a comment on why it probably died. Once they reach maturity and emerge as a beetle they usually only live for a brief period while they search for a mate. Your guy just reached his end. We have the same here in FL with different large beetles.
