Size: about an inch
This is a grasshopper that is always common in my yard in the summer. I have no idea what species it is but they can be brown or green or sometimes both.

Dichromorpha viridis?
I believe this is a male marsh meadow grasshopper, Dichromorpha viridis. I'm pretty sure the swollen femora on the first two pair of legs is a diagnostic character for this insect.
