Roddia vaualbum - Nymphalis l-album

Roddia vaualbum - Nymphalis l-album
Lake MacDonald Lodge, Montana, USA
July 24, 2006
Never saw the topside, but did photograph the profile and topwing of a definite green comma and this profile is different. THe one that is definitely a green comma has the green more diffusely spread near the wingtip and not sharply demarcated as the stripe shown here. ???

That is a beautiful photo. I always love to see the pattern in the eyes. This is not a Polygonia, but is closely related. It is Nymphalis vau-album. The name is in a bit of flux right now as people argue over "j-album", "l-album", and so on. I don't know which will win out.

Your welcome
I to am enjoying having discovered BugGuide very much, and I think that over time it has the potential to turn into one of the best resources available for identification of joint-legged critters.
