Dolichoderinae ? - Formica

Dolichoderinae ? - Formica
Petit-Cap, Westmorland County, New Brunswick, Canada
June 25, 2012
Size: est. 8mm ??
On beach of sand dune in eastern New Brunswick. The winged insect may also be an ant? Thanks for any guidance.

Moved
Moved from Odorous Ants.

Formica sp. - worker (Formicinae)
Difficult to tell for sure, at this magnification level, whether this worker belongs to the sanguinea-group, the rufa-group or else is a F. exsectoides. Contrary to Europe, all "red" Formica look confusingly alike in North-America.
The black "prey" (maybe only scavenged) is indeed a winged ant: a male Carpenter Ant, most likely C. noveboracensis just like the female you posted.

Thanks!
Thanks so much for the information!
