Syrphidae? male? Been trying to get a picture of this fly and then today it obligingly landed on my shorts.

Looks like
a male Narcissus (Daffodil) Bulb Fly. Merodon equestris I am not 100% sure though.

Thanks! Yes, I thought that was what it was. I like all the invertebrates here and love providing them habitat.... still in this case, let's hope it sticks to the eurasian bulbs here, not the native bulbs :-)

Syrphidae
This is a syrphidae alright. The spurious vein shows up quite well in the wider of the two images.
