Nice flight shot!

Try browsing through Syrphidae. One genus that has huge eyes and a white face is Palpada, but I doubt that will exhaust the possibilities.

Pretty sure this will turn out to be a species of Copestylum or Volucella.

I'll give that a try. Actually, there are many syrphid shots I need to identify anyway. In this particular instance, the flight shot was entirely an accident, but I have many really good and purposeful ones on the smaller flower flies. Think I'll post some later, as these are fun to look at.
