EXCELLENT!!!! Pompilidae:Notocyphinae:Notocyphus
This is Notocyphus dorsalis. I've never been to the southwest but I have seen several pinned specimens. They were once classified in close alliance to Ceropales, but recent evidence by Pitts and colleagues suggests they are more closely related to the Pompilinae. This bug was not in the guide so I have created a place to move it, there should be a species slot for it. I did not create a subspecies page but this is N. d. arizonicus. Subspecies designations are rarely very useful for spider wasps.

Thanks you so very much!
There were two of these feeding. From a distance, the red made me think "tarantula hawk", though these were smaller. One left on my approach, but this one stayed. I was very pleased to see a wasp off the ground and moving "relatively" slowly. Glad you like the results!

(Written later: I've added a fourth photo.)
