bee-like robber - Laphria virginica? - Laphria flavicollis - Male

Size: 12-16mm
And what is the pale dot on its eye? I first thought it had to be a reflection, but I don't think so.
Closest I could find in the guide is Laphria virginica although I still don't see any with the matching yellow eye spot...
Any thoughts?
