Mystery in our Yard - Arilus cristatus

Size: 1.5 inches
This was found on the underside of a strawberry leaf in our yard tonight... the red insect is new and soft and looks as though it is coming out of the black dead body...it also has wings but were very wet in appearance...it reminds me of a butterfly emerging from a cacoon...please help with our mystery
