Mantid body, but not a mantis? D:

Mantid body, but not a mantis? D:
Girard, Erie County, Pennsylvania, USA
July 6, 2012
Size: 1/2 inch
Found this guy in the grass in my front yard while setting up a yard sale (he stuck out quite a bit!) and was quite taken with him. During the yard sale I've been asking people who come through, and no one's been able to tell me what he is. I've been searching online like crazy.

His body shape seems mantid-like, but his eyes and head are different, and his front legs aren't jagged or claw-like, just grippy for climbing around on things. He folds his front legs in half when he's resting. He /may/ have a proboscis. I don't see jaws, but he seems to have a small, lighter colored straight piece folded under his mouth area. He has long, segmented antennae, and is very graceful with his movements. He's pretty docile, he walked on my hand for a while, I have him in an open glass dish with grass, dead leaves (which he blends in with very well) and several flowers that were nearby him at the time, as wells as a couple tiny ants, because I have no idea what he eats, and figured he was headed for something close.

I do still have him in the glass, he's moving around a bit, but doesn't seem too upset about the situation. If he appears frantic or is trying to climb the sides I will release him, I mean him no harm, he's just snazzy! Either way, I will release him before it gets dark tonight. :]

Assassin Bug
Looks like it might be Sinea - . It's still immature as the wings are not completely developed yet.

Sinea
I think you're right, their picture is more true to color, looks just like him!

Thanks so much for the answer, I just -had- to know what he was as I've lived in a rural area my whole life and never come across one :O

He started pacing around a bit around 4:30, so I grabbed a few more photos and let him go somewhere nearby where he wouldn't get crushed, figured the pacing meant he was looking for food and not finding it. It was definitely a nice visit though! Definitely a neat little thing!:]

Another possibility...
...might be Acholla.
