Cicindela rufiventris - Cicindelidia rufiventris

Cicindela rufiventris - Cicindelidia rufiventris
Fews Ford, Eno River State Park, Orange County, North Carolina, USA
July 3, 2006
This looks like C. rufiventris to me, but I want a more experienced opinion. This has very smooth elytra and was out in July. Compare one with rough elytra from the same site in April:

Are these two photos of the same species?

The habitat was a clay bank on the shore of the Eno River.

There are some species that perhaps look similar to C. rufiventris, such as Cicindela duodecimguttata:

Thanks for help--see comments.

C. rufiventris
Yes this is C. rufiventris. You can see the red abdomen between the tips of the elytra. Neat shot! As for the April one, I have no idea. Looks neat, though!

Thanks, April photo
Thanks for confirmation--I thought that was red on the abdomen.
I have several photos of the beetles from April, and I will try to get details of the abdomen--I think there is red there as well. However Brimley (1) lists C. rufiventris for Piedmont and mountains of North Carolina, June-September. That may be significant, but sometimes I find things at seasons at variance with Brimley.
