Underwing moth? - Catocala hermia

Underwing moth? - Catocala hermia
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
July 7, 2012
This moth was sitting on a beam in the outdoor classroom at the Claremont Colleges’ Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station. The little bit of red and black peeking out on the underwings leads me to think that hit might be an Underwing (Catocala). I’m afraid the photo is grainy because I had to use a high “film speed” to get an image in the dim light, but I'm hoping there might be enough information to get an ID or at least confirmation of the genus. Any information will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Thanks for the confirmation of the genus! Any chance of taking it further?

species
I suspect junctura, but I haven't had a chance to rule out any similar species.
