Yes, this is Hemaris diffinis. Nice shot! They can be very hard to photograph because they move around so quickly.

Hemaris photography
I've had that experience too. It's not difficult to get close to them (I guess the flowers interest them more than nearby humans) but then, if you want to photograph them, it gets much more difficult! :)
