I notice a lot of wasps seem to be searching on the ground for something and now realize it's prey, often spiders.

Black and yellow mud dauber
The experts can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this color pattern along with that thread-thin waist can only be one species: Sceliphron caementarium.

When they're not gathering mud for their nests, they're hunting for spiders to feed their larvae- a very active wasp.
