Identification
D. apache f. ochroleuca is a pallid reddish-brown color form most frequently found in n. Arizona, Utah, Nevada and California.
Basic characters include:
Eyes: Described as reddish (rust-colored)
Body: Usually a uniform dark reddish-brown color
Pronotal Collar: Described as entirely bone-colored, orangish or tan - AZ ranging north into s. Utah & se. Calif.
Mesonotum: reddish brown with slight pattern
Abdomen: As in similar species (compare with D. semicincta), the terminal segments possess a pruinose band that is typically incomplete.
Opercula: Described as pointed with the terminal points being sub-parallel or slightly curved (the terminal points of opercula are NOT as drawn out or strongly curved inwards towards the mid-line as in semicincta)
There have been several poorly defined "ssp." and "variations" described (none thought to be taxonomically valid).
