Identification
Basic characters include:
Eyes: Described as reddish (rust-colored)
Body: Usually dark (often black in appearance), slight reddish-brown coloration may be visible on the mesonotum
Pronotal Collar: Described as entirely bone-colored, orangish or tan
Mesonotum: Dark with little if any evidence of reddish brown pattern
Abdomen: As in similar species (compare with D. semicincta), the terminal segments possess a pruinose band that is typically incomplete.
Opercula: Described as pointed with the terminal points being subparallel or slightly curved (the terminal points of opercula are described as NOT drawn out or strongly curved inwards towards the midline as in semicincta)
There have been several poorly defined "ssp." and "variations" described (none thought to be taxonomically valid).
