Treehopper - Publilia concava

Treehopper - Publilia concava
Red Wing, Goodhue County, Minnesota, USA
June 30, 2012
I witnessed an interesting behavior in that this ant kept returning to the treehopper, stroking it with its antennae. I know that ants do this with aphids, but I'm not aware of this behavior with hoppers. Anyone have any information they could add to this? Thanks.

is fairly common among tree hoppers. I see it quite often when collecting Vanduzea arquata on black locust, and I know other species exhibit it as well.

This kind of reminds me of the genus Publilia, but not sure.
