American Lady - Vanessa virginiensis

American Lady - Vanessa virginiensis
Seminole, Seminole County, Oklahoma, USA
June 24, 2012
Second butterfly emerged today. This butterfly is seriously messed up. The wings didn't fully plump, and it kept falling off of the sticks provided. One of it's front legs is deformed... it's stubby and has no gripper/claw at the end. It also goes the wrong way, as well as limited use of the other legs. It is missing an antennae. The body, as seen in this photo is actually curved left at the head, and then curved right at the end, resembling an "S". What happened here? And what is the most humane way to deal with this situation? I hate that this happened... Do I just let it go and let nature take it's course? Sad.

Sadly this butterfly passed...
It didn't make it even through it's first day. I'm glad to say it ate some grapes that were over ripe and worked hard to try to climb.
