Beetle - Gondwanocrypticus platensis

Beetle - Gondwanocrypticus platensis
Palm Springs, Riverside County, California, USA
June 26, 2012
Size: 4.4 mm
Common on sidewalks, but very difficult to photograph. They were extremely restless and erratic, not unlike some leiodids, but I'm not sure.

Moved tentatively
Thanks for the lead, Brad. That is very interesting, if indeed this is G. platensis. This find is also further east than the other two BG records, in the next county, so it appears the beetle would have a rather wide foothold in the region. [Edit: looks like there are records of this thing as far east as Texas] Moved from Beetles.

Teneb
Gondwanocrypticus sp., platensis I suppose
