Mystery Insect
Palm Beach Gardens (Frenchman's Forest Natural area), Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
July 12, 2012
Size: 8mm
I'm embarrassed to say that I have no idea what this is! I was photographing Bahia grass and saw it looking back at me through the sun-glared view screen, but it flew off before I could get a good look at it.

Moved from ID Request.

Most likely Melissodes male
Hi Bob! This is a male be in the tribe Eucerini; most likely Melissodes judging by the size, eye color (not dark brown/black) and orange antennae.
Dr. John Ascher may know the exact species so I will wait for him to comment :)

Thank you
Thank you all for your help :) I wish I had gotten a more complete photo but it flew away before I could even look at it.

Nomada?
Looks like a stinging wasp/bee, maybe a Nomada with those red antennae.

Beautiful image!
What camera lens, et cetera?

Camera
Thanks! I used my old Nikon Coolpix L110 point and shoot. My eyesight is very poor and I depend entirely upon the auto-focus.

Welcome to the club!
My main image grabber is a Pentax Optio w30. Great little camera. Wish "they" would come up with a point-and-shoot just for macro work.
