Araneidae?
All the leg spines are making me wonder if this is an orb weaver...

male Cyclosa?
It reminds me of a male Cyclosa. I'll have to review the paper.
Edit - this is a dead ringer for Cyclosa turbinata male in Canada part 23. SO that probably means I have this one wrong
I'll work on that next.

that makes perfect sense
because I found a Cyclosa female in the same spot. I thought the female was C. conica (that's the only Cyclosa species I'm familiar with), but looking at the pictures again, I see it has two humps on the abdomen, so I guess that must be C. turbinata too!

on the other hand...
however, my specimen doesn't resemble the above picture very well. Mine doesn't have the tubercle on the abdomen, and the above spider doesn't have the white spots. I'm confused...
Do you have literature describing the habitus of C. turbinata, Lynette?

I think you misunderstood my comment
image number 194907 (the above spider without white spots) was formerly ID's as C. turbinata. However, after IDing your image I realized that ID on 194907 was an error. I've since moved that image back out to the genus level.

Can't see the spines under the front legs
but what do you think of an unusual Theridiid - Asagena
The match is not as good as we would like, but maybe that's an age difference? Either that or Lynette will tell us we have the wrong genus!

Thx
Thanks for the suggestion J&J, as I didn't think of Theridiidae at all. However, looking at the legs of my specimen, I think they are a bit too spiney for a theridiid, but I could be wrong...

We were afraid of that
but now we're stumped. Gonna wait for Lynette's ideas!
