QUESTION?
Do you know if this cicada is ovipositing in a living twig (Wateer Oak, Quercus nigra).

It looks as though the branch is living and not dead.

I strongly suspect this species, like its close relative T. auletes, will use living twigs!

It is a live twig very near the end of the branch. What is below the ovipositor? She seem to use this to help give leverage as she punctured the twig. I got a few short videos but not that great.

There has been debate regarding the oviposition by Tibicen species in living twigs and I have seen several species do this!
