Lepidoptera larva on Solidago

September 20, 2021: are these ubiquitous larvae the same as this

I ask because it is fall and I'm finding them in numbers on Goldenrod. Wagner (Owlet Caterpillars) writes: "Locally common. Thought to be polyphagous, esp. on nonwoody, low-growing plants in Spring (Bird 1925); eggs sometimes laid in goldenrod heads."

Beautiful little lep but I was unable to rear it.

Similar to this on Goldenrod, Solidago spp:

and this on Oxeye false sunflower, Heliopsis helianthoides:

and this on Green-headed coneflower, Rudbeckia laciniata:


The years go on, the host plants multiply, and still not a single adult!

I have the hardest time
rearing on composites. There are always multiple larvae, external and internal and then every time I bring in fresh host plant material, I introduce more larvae. If I try to find all the larvae I end up tearing apart the host plant. Composit feeders are hard (for me) to rear. Not to mention I don't get a very good success rate.
