The plant it is on is a species in the Croton genus.
The caterpillar is that the Goatweed Leafwing butterfly.
Supposedly they only use plants from the Croton genus, but some websites have listed some other Euphorbia species, but I've never seen them on anything other than Croton species.

Personally I think the butterfly is fascinating. I have been trying to grow different Croton species in my backyard where they are present. Would you be willing to collect some seeds for me? I can provide a description how to do this with the least effort.
